Oh the Horror!

Pearl Harbor day and Greg turns in the surprise attack. Tyler was eyeing back to back wins and when the flop showed: 4-4-4 he knew his pocket Ace would at worst give him a split pot, and c'mon, Greg doesn't have quad 4's. "Hey Greg, I'm all in. Uh DOH, you have the other 4?!!!" By 11 pm Greg and Bernie had worked Tyler out of chips and around 12am Greg became a two time winner. Great playing by both Greg and Bernie and kudos to Bernie as that is the best playing I've seen from you yet. Greg, well deserved (you @@*^%@#@$!_+).

Last night was strange, we saw David seem to revert back to the original David and Jeff just seemed to be under the gun. Marc had more chasers than Ted Kennedy and Bobby played well, but didn't get the right cards. All in all I had a good time and I'm glad you all came to the Janke house. I enjoy anyone coming over besides the unemployment office checking on me. As we've all said - $20 for some good times with friends - well worth it.

Hey YARD, you are an A-HOLE!

Preview of the battle tonight

PN1 is scheduled for tonight (Wednesday 12/06/06) at Tyler's house.
Map of 8420 Arrowroot Cir

Give Tyler a call (726-1795) if you get lost or need more detailed directions.

I captured a short preview of the battle to be waged tonight.

Another one for the mantle

The game came down to Jeff and Tyler with a fairly even chip count. The blinds were $150 and $300 and around 12:30am Tyler won. Honestly, I don't remember if it was Bobby or Marc that went out prior to the heads up duel, but I know that Bobby's "lucky" 2 white chips didn't serve Jeff very well.

Thanks to everyone for coming over and I'm up for it being here again in the near future. I went to bed at 2am and maybe too tired to surf the web much today.

Greg Fayard "Swinger"

Mr. Greg Fayard has greatly improved his Golfing. Here is a little proof.
Here is Marc Dunn...You guess which drive we took:

Wah waaahhhh

Poker night this Thursday (26th) will be at my house (see mapquest link on the links tab). It's just about 2 miles south of Marc's house on the other side of PFE. However, if you are not too familiar with the back roads of Roseville you might just want to go I-80 and use the Antelope Rd exit.

See you there.

Smack talkin' poker

Even with my super busy schedule I'm able to post a little something to this blog. Okay folks, let's get serious again about dogging each other on this blog and smack talkin' about Poker. We need to set up another time for poker this month and I will most likely be able to host it at my house...but on a Thursday. Give me some input.

Greg takes the pot

Greg Fayad, welcome to the winners circle. All night Greg worked us over and even though David had the comeback of the year he still had to give way to Greg's brutal assassin like poker skills. So Greg, sit back, relax and let the winners adrenaline flow.

Poker Night 1 - Mark your Calendar

It looks like we are doing this thing on July 20th at Greg Fayard's house. You should be there and ready to play at 7pm sharp. I've been messing around with the google calendar to help us out. Get a google calendar account and subscribe to the link on the right under "Remind me with Google Calendar." It's supplied again here for your laziness.

Communication issues

So what's up with the communication this time around? No directions to David's house.....is this to keep Greg away this time cuz I KNOW he's due. Maybe we should take a little lesson from the video below.

Golf isn't just a man's game

Hey men, I'm heading out of town for a few days with Marc (see pic for details), but we really need to get a new night scheduled for when we get back. After our gruelling weekend of golf, I'm sure I'll be in the mood for some poker...the card game variety that is.

I could change my schedule for Poker

As you can see, I had important primping plans for that night, Little TAH-TAH. But I'll reschedule, bring a $20 and give myself a shave.

Also, why does Marc Dunn keep changing his blogger name? I just got used to Pocket Aces.

Missed it by that much

Okay, maybe it wasn't that close, but I tried my best to take everyone's money. Here's how it went: Mark Lowrey tried to take the pot with 3 pairs...but just ended up taking David's spot as the first spectator. Marc Dunn went all in and then went all out and never missed a chance to work the Brokeback Mtn jokes. Next out was the Lawyer and his methodical way of playing poker. Little "tah tah" couldn't conjure up the cards and seemed poised to fall asleep at any moment. Dude, drink some coffee. Bernie "Biff" Gagain stayed in the game a long time while getting numerous hands of 5 and 3. Tyler wouldn't shut up about the hand he just folded or the hand that got away and Jeff just took all our chips and money. Folks, it was a good time and Jeff has showed he is definately the guy to beat. I believe that's 4 wins for the Wickham and 1 each for Marc and Tyler.

PN1 Night has been set

It appears that we will be meeting for another night of poker this Thursday at Jeff's house. (See link to directions on the side column). We will try starting at 7:10pm sharp, so plan on getting there around 6:30 to shovel in some pizza. Jeff, can you order the pizza and I'll pay you when I get there?

Oh, I bought some turtlewax products and they gave me some free playing cards. That's about all I'm willing to spend on a new deck. After all, the old deck did well for me last time. See you there.

Best five hand - Split pot

I've done a little research and have verified that Jeff is correct on the interpretation of the best "5 hand" rule. The link here can provide some help and following is the most important part:

Board (after three rounds)
8♠ Q♣ 8♥ 4♣

Alice10♣ 9♣
BobK♥ Q♠
CarolQ♥ 10♦
DavidJ♣ 2♣

At the moment, Bob is in the lead with a hand of Q♠ Q♣ 8♠ 8♥ K♥, making two pair, Qs and 8s, with a K kicker. This just beats Carol's hand of Q♥ Q♣ 8♠ 8♥ 10♦ by virtue of his kicker. Both Alice and David are hoping the final card is a club, which will make them both a flush, but David would have the higher flush and win if that happens. For example, if the final card was the 7♣, David's flush would be Q-J-7-4-2, while Alice's would be Q-10-9-7-4. Alice could still win, though, if the final card were the J♦, as that would give her a Q-high straight. On this deal, however, the final card was the A♠, which didn't help either of them. Bob and Carol still each have two pair, but notice what happened: both of them are now entitled to play the final A as their fifth card, making their hands both two pair, Qs and 8s, with an A kicker. Bob's K no longer plays, because the A on the board plays as the fifth card in both hands, and they can't play six cards. They therefore split the pot.

To the stroke of midnight

Hey boys, that was a lot of fun and even more so when you win. I hope we continue to have a new winner for the next several times and spread the wealth. It'll happen and I'm proof that it's possible.

Sorry for the crude language I threw around last night and a couple F-bombs. Marc will attest that I normally am a very clean talking chap and especially around the church jack-asses. But as my cat had just died, I was on an emotional roller coaster and trying my best to swipe your cash.

Note to Bernie: You have my deepest respect for not just folding that last hand and taking at least $40. (I would have) But you went in like a real man and for that, I was able to pay for golf today. Thanks again.

Navigating Church Poker

I'm thrilled that several of you have decided to contribute to the site. I will try to actually put some useful links on the right hand side. Please note the two poker links and the two schedule links already up and running (let me know if you have some suggestions). PN1 and PN2 dates will be updated with directions to the house of that weeks sucker. (Someone might want to check the validity to Bobby's Address link).

Jeff, here's my $20

The Launch of the Churchpoker blog has been a highly anticipated event. Fear no longer, today is the day.

Let me give a rundown of the first 4 meetings of PN1. (please note that an offshoot, non-church-sanctioned Poker-Night 2 (PN2) has sprung up. These rogue poker players have so far avoided police surveillance and the dreaded ex-communication)

First 4 Winners:
Jeff Wickam, Jeff Wickam, Jeff Wickam, Marc Dunn. The first question you ask is, "who the hell is Marc Dunn and was Jeff Wickam sick?" Actually, Marc just got lucky.

Word on the street is that PN2 is happening tonight, March 20th. Talk to Bobby Pena for details. PN1 (the original) is slated for March 30th (Thursday) at Marc Dunn's new pad (click this link for a map to his house). See you all there.
